Why Support Women+ in Climate Tech?

Gender equity, defined as access to family planning and education, is almost a 70 Gigaton opportunity according to Project Drawdown — carbon sequestered or removed from the atmosphere between now and 2050. That’s all the world’s cars off the roads for 5 years. 

What’s even more remarkable is that this estimate is only for equity as defined narrowly; women are critical to other top drawdown strategies such as reducing food waste and utilizing clean cooking stoves. Up to 80% of worldwide small family farms are women-operated; women procure and cook the majority of the world’s food; and so much more.

Bottom line: The impact of climate technologies can be amplified — in terms of both profitability and planet — if those technologies and strategies incorporate gender. At Women+ in Climate Tech this is core to our mission, and we offer unique and powerful opportunities to support this work. These include programs supporting women+ in three core phases of their careers, including:

1. Girls+ in Climate Tech: encouraging the next generation of women+ to join our field.

2. Mentorship to support early and mid-career women.

3. Reports (such as Climate Risk, The Great Retraining, and the New Climate Economy) giving seasoned sustainability professionals benchmarking data for growing successful climate careers, departments, and companies.
